If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, and ex-monk of the Catholic Chruch, in the year 1517. If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534, because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to re-marry. If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Know in Scotland in the year 1560. If you are a Congregationalist, your relgion was orginated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582. If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1605. If you are of the Dutch Reformend church, you recognize Michaelis Jones as founder, because he orginiated your religion in New Your in 1628. If you are a protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England founded by Samuel Seabury in the Americian colonies in the 17th century. If you are a Methodist, your religion was launched by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744. If you are a Unitarian, Theophilus Lindley founded your church in London in 1774. If you are a Morman (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, N.Y. in 1829. If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865. If you are a Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy as its founder. If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as “Church of the Nazarene,” “Penecostal Gospel,” Holiness Church,” “Pilgram Holiness Chruch,” “Jehovah’s Witnesses,” your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past one hundred years. If you are a Roman Catholic, you know that your religion was founded in the year 33 Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and it is still the same Chruch” This information was published by the Cathoic Truth Publication. THINGS THAT AMAZE ME IN THE ARTICLE
When we say, “church of Christ,” we know that many “churches” have gone far from the truth. There are many different kins of “chruches of Christ.” Some it seems really do follow the Bible with Book, Chapter, and Verse. Still many are getting pretty loose as to what they teach and practice. In order to be a church like the Bible, we need to follow the Bible in all we teach and practice. We need to uphold the moral standard of the Bible also. In the 1800’s most “chruches of Christ” went away from the truth. This is how the “Christian Churches” got started. In came mechanical music in worship and a host of other things. Every local chruch today needs to realize IT is independent with the Bible as the guide, and follow it. It is wonderful churches are independent so if any one goes away from the truth, no other church has to. Ye, many churches influence other local chruches, but each local church needs to follow the Bible for itself and stay faithful to the word of God. WE just need to remember the Bible is our standard. MORE ON HOW OLD IS THE CHRUCH OF CHRIST? In about 33 AD the chruch of Christ came into existence in Acts 2. It grew fast to where Col 1:23 states “If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and WHICH WAS PREACHED TO EVERY CREATURE WHIS IS UNDER HEAVEN; whereof I Paul am made a minister.” Emphasis mine DB It is wonderful to think that all at one time all on earht had opportunity to hear the gospel and obey it. We need to work as hard as we can to preach the gospel that way today. From 33 AD many have heard the gospel and many local chruches have existed, yet many have fallen away also. It should be the desire of Christian to do all he can to spread the gospel far and wide so all in our day can have the opporunity to hear and obey the gospel. The word “GOSPEL” organinally meant a reward for good news, then later it meant the good news itself. In Rom 1:16 Paul stated, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ.” How could anyone be ashamed of such good news as the saving Gospel. Yet, many do not want to hear it. But for the save, we all enjoy attending gospel meetings where it is preached. How wonderful to think about heaven and the good life that gets us there.
